Additional information
Asatsuyu bushes are quite rare in organic cultivation, as they are considered a very sensitive cultivar of tea bush that is difficult to protect from pest infestations and also produces only a relatively small yield.
However, tea producers in the Kirishima Mountains have succeeded in growing the sensitive Asatsuyu bushes in their organic tea garden and keeping them undamaged despite the intense shade. This Gyokuro tea elicits a fantastic umami flavor and a very elegant, delicate sweetness from the Asatsuyu bushes.
Asatsuyu and Gyokuro refer to different aspects of Japanese tea cultivation and types of tea plants, even though they are related.
1. Asatsuyu Cultivar  is a specific cultivar of tea plant (Camellia sinensis) known for its high quality. It is one of the tea varieties that can be grown to produce high-grade green tea, including gyokuro.
   – Characteristics: Asatsuyu leaves are smaller and more tender compared to many other cultivars. They are particularly noted for their rich umami flavor and sweet taste, making them desirable for high-quality teas. The name “Asatsuyu” translates to “morning dew,” reflecting its delicate and aromatic nature.
2. Gyokuro:
   – Type of Tea : Gyokuro is a type of shaded green tea that is cultivated in specific ways to enhance its flavor profile. It is produced from specially grown tea leaves, often using cultivars like Asatsuyu, Yabukita, and others.
    **Cultivation Method**
To produce Gyokuro, the tea bushes are covered with shade cloth for several weeks before harvest. This shading process increases the chlorophyll content in the leaves, resulting in a rich, sweet flavor with a pronounced umami character.
    **Characteristics**
Gyokuro is known for its deep green color, rich aroma, and smooth taste with a balance of sweetness and umami. It is considered one of the highest grades of Japanese green tea.
In summary, Asatsuyu is a specific cultivar of tea plant, while Gyokuro refers to a type of tea made from certain cultivars, including Asatsuyu, that are shaded during growth to enhance flavor.
